Last night I had the fortune of attending RadioLab Live at the Beacon Theater. For those unaware, RadioLab is a radio show and podcast weaving stories and science into sound and music-rich documentaries. It’s a funny/smart/nerdy/beautiful weekly show from NPR and you must immediately start listening to it.
Why am I bringing it up here on the Merkley blog? Because I’ve always been of the mind that non-advertising interests boost our creative thought pool, that the best advertising is drawn from strong human insights, and that advertising often intersects with any topic related to the human experience.
For example, one of my favorite episodes of RadioLab, titled “Choice,” deals with the science behind the choices we make. Did you know that emotional decision making is not only NOT a bad thing, it’s actually hardwired into our brains for our own protection? Intrigued yet? Then please give this episode a listen to glean interesting insights into how people make their choices, including what brand of candy they buy. (See what I did there?)
Click the picture to find the episode. I don’t think I’ve left you any other choice.
